WORKSHOP ENVIRONMENT
This fun commercial acting technique workshop is packed full of information, building a strong foundational base to support layers of choices, resulting in a complex performance that appears simple and seamless. Participants will be able to create a performance in 30 seconds that is specific and will stand out.
WHO CAN TAKE THIS WORKSHOP?
This workshop is designed for both beginners and advanced. The highest level of information is given to you which is designed for individual growth, bringing you step by step to your highest potential.
This workshop is designed to free you to have fun, to trust, gain confidence and enable you to create fully within the small time and space you are given to audition for a television commercial.
THE APPROACH and RESULT
Through learning how to utilize space, beats and moments, you will know how to reveal who you are and how you feel in a very short amount of time and in a very small space. You will have control of your audition and be able to apply your unique personality to any given situation.
BRANDING
The creative team is looking for a personality that will make their characters come to life. By week two, Terry will identify the characteristics of YOUR personality that will pinpoint your branding. As every person is different, being able to reveal your particular personality in any given situation will be your strongest asset.
SCRIPT ANALYSIS
You will learn simple ways to analyze copy and apply proper choices. We start with strong foundational copy and move on to scripts with unexpected structure.
IMPROV
Each workshop session has an improv exercise based on traditional improv skills, where you will learn the particular differences for the commercial venue. Your improv muscle will be stretched to enable fast thinking, eliminate self-criticism while gaining comfort, and create an environment that results in a connected performance.
ON-CAMERA TIME
Every exercise is performed on camera. After your first performance, notes are given to you that will move you past your stumbling blocks. You then are directed through subsequent performances bringing you to your next level. The critiquing is individual, focusing on your strengths.
WHO TEACHES THIS CLASS
All four weeks are taught by Terry Berland. On week five, there may be an agent guest for an agent educational evening.
FREE PERKS
Any participant is eligible for a free agent networking evening any time they are offered. Free agent networking evenings are announced through Berland Casting’s newsletter. (Eligibility is dependent on space available on a first-come, first-served basis).

Why are Terry Berland Commercial Acting Workshops online?
The workshops are designed to prepare you for the reality of working in the business. And commercial first auditions are almost always self-taped.
What does a self-taped audition mean?
The actor is given instructions and a script and asked to tape themselves and then submit the audition to the casting director.
What does a talent need to know to submit a good self-taped audition?
The actor needs good lighting and a way to video themselves with good quality and know how to label and download their submission and send them properly to the casting director.
They also need to know how to audition in the self-taped venue.
How do Terry Berland’s Commercial Acting Online Virtual Workshops help actors?
This online virtual workshop prepares the actor for the most up-to-the-minute way of auditioning.
In Terry Berland’s Commercial Acting online workshop the talent will get feedback and guidance for the best lighting and filming, including framing and taking direction. Understanding the lingo the casting director uses in the direction is very important. Not following directions properly can cause you to lose a chance for your audition to be considered.
The actual audition process is simulated each week. Each week the talent is sent a script and directions. Their performance will be critiqued and will be brought to their next level.
What is the goal of Terry Berland’s Commercial Acting Virtual Online Workshops?
The goal is to become confident and bring out your authentic personality both online and in person at live commercial auditions.
